HOW THE PROJECT BEGAN: Our client was a homeowner living way too far from her grand babies! We helped her sell her previous home and find a new one that was closer to them. The one she purchased was *almost* perfect, but there were a few updates she wanted to make before settling in, and the kitchen was at the top of her list.
PROJECT AT A GLANCE:
PROJECT GOAL: Update an older solid wood cabinet kitchen while staying on budget
STYLE: Capture a modern black and white farmhouse look
The kitchen cabinets were solid, but the natural color and busy back splash gave the space a dated look. In addition, several different cabinets and counter tops had been added to the space over the years contributing to the disjointed feel.
BEFORE:
Since the cabinets were in good shape we decided to paint them white and replace all of the hardware with a matte black finish. We replaced one cabinet- the big white one- with a narrower cabinet to allow for more walking space. We also added a shelf above for a microwave.
AFTER:
We also updated the faucet with matte black to match, installed long textured subway tile, added honed counter tops, and replaced the flooring with durable laminate.
BEFORE:
AFTER:
Our homeowner was not loving the open shelves around the refrigerator so we made doors and painted them to match the rest of the kitchen… And did we mention the floor? Not pretty!

AFTER: Doors were added around the refrigerator, along with matching back splash and counter, for continuity
This project was so much fun, and we couldn’t be happier to see this grandma living closer to those babies!
